About Ian F. Smith

Having grown up on the east coast of Central Florida and studying Finance at Florida State University and Business Administration at the University of Central Florida, Ian began his Financial and Insurance career in Orlando, Florida. After seven years, Ian and his wife Britney decided to search for a change of environment to raise their young family. Based on their desire for a strong education system and quality of business and family values their search landed them in Wisconsin. Soon after landing in Madison Wisconsin in 1998, he met Daniel Stafford who was in the process of merging his insurance consulting and wealth management practice with Virchow Krause, LLP, one of the largest CPA firms in the US. For the next ten years, Ian joined Dan and worked for Virchow Krause as a consultant and assisted in developing and building the Asset Protection Group. The group focused on advanced insurance planning in the areas of life settlements, executive retirement planning and closely held business planning. When Virchow Krause merged with Baker Tilly International, the Asset Protection Group was spun off to Stafford Financial Consulting Group LLC, of which Ian is an owner and partner. He will bring the same level of planning techniques and consulting services to new clients in the area of advanced planning concepts, such as executive benefits, business succession and continuation planning, secondary market life settlement appraisals, life insurance portfolio maintenance and client relationship management. As the firm matures, Ian will also provide consulting services in employee welfare benefits, ancillary line benefits and qualified Long Term Care services.
